Acclaimed artist, Vincent Fantauzzo, visited the College on Wednesday, 28 March as part of the new MLC Artist in Residence Programme.

Vincent is a renowned portrait painter and multiple Archibald Prize Finalist, with his most well-known portraits including the late Heath Ledger, Brandon Walters, Asher Keddie, Matt Moran and Baz Luhrmann.

Vincent spent time with Art students in Years 8, 10 and 12 and generously shared his experiences as a successful artist. He offered plenty of insightful knowledge of technical skills and processes he uses to create his paintings, as well as his backstory on becoming an artist.

Particularly with the younger students, his stories of ‘celebrity’ (including Julia Gillard and Ed Sheeran) certainly piqued interest and helped relate his craft back to the students.

Importantly, his messages of perseverance, motivation, and how he achieves his goals was not lost on the girls as they all reflected back on what they had learnt from him.

The Year 10s also had the opportunity to walk to a nearby park for an art session with Vincent, photos below.

The new MLC Artists in Residence initiative will see other celebrated artists’ visit MLC’s Art and Design studios on a regular basis. We look forward to welcoming Lisa Roet, Kaffeine, Kate Beynon, Michael Peck, Adnate and James Parret in Term 2.
