The Star Community Notices

Guidelines for The Star magazine

We encourage all Old Collegians to contact us and share news for inclusion in The Star’s Community Notices section. We publish Engagement, Marriage, Birth and In Memory Notices.

Your notice is considered eligible for the next edition of The Star magazine if it relates to an event occurring less than 18 months prior to the forthcoming publication.

Please note that all notices are published in the print and digital version of The Star. Below is some helpful information on submitting notices to us:

Engagement notices

If you, or a family member are an Old Collegian and have recently become engaged, we would be delighted to include an Engagement Notice in the next edition of The Star. You can submit an Engagement Notice for yourself or for someone who you are directly related to, with their permission.

To submit an Engagement Notice, please email thestar@mlc.vic.edu.au and provide the following information to us:

  • Preferred name and surname
  • Alumnae Year
  • Full name of partner


A member of our editorial team will use the information provided to draft a notice for your approval that follows a standard template. Variations on the template are not possible.

Marriage notices

If you, or a family member, are an Old Collegian and have recently married, we would love to include a Marriage Notice in the next edition of The Star.

To submit a Marriage Notice, please email thestar@mlc.vic.edu.au and provide the following information to us:

  • Preferred name and surname
  • Alumnae Year
  • Full name of partner
  • Date of wedding
  • Town/country of wedding (if not in Victoria)
  • The names, alumnae years, relationship and role on the day of any Old Collegians present (i.e. matron of honour, bridesmaid)


Please also provide a good quality, high resolution image (300 DPI) from the day to include alongside the Wedding Notice.

Birth notices

If you, or a family member are an Old Collegian and have recently given birth, we would love to celebrate your new arrival with a Birth Notice in the next edition of The Star.

To submit a Birth Notice, please email thestar@mlc.vic.edu.au and provide the following information to us:

  • Preferred name and surname
  • Alumnae Year
  • Full name of partner (if any)
  • Full name of child
  • Child’s date of birth
  • Full names of siblings (if any)
  • The names, alumnae years and relationship of any relatives who also attended MLC


A member of our editorial team will use the information provided to draft a Birth Notice for your approval that follows a standard template. Variations on the template are not possible.

In Memory notices

We are honoured to publish In Memory notices for Old Collegians and past or present MLC staff members. You can submit In Memory notices for those who you are directly related to or if you are executing a Will.

Please note, you may submit an In Memory notice for an individual that you are not related to with express written permission from their family.

To submit an In Memory notice, please email thestar@mlc.vic.edu.au and provide following information to us:

  • Preferred name and surname
  • Date of passing
  • Alumnae Year (if the individual is an Old Collegian) or years of tenure (if the individual is a past or present staff member)
  • The names, alumnae years and relationship of any relatives who also attended MLC


A member of our editorial team will use the information provided to draft an In Memory notice for your approval that follows a standard template. Variations on the template are not possible.

Tributes

MLC is honoured to acknowledge significant members of the community by way of a Tribute. Tributes are published at the discretion of The Star Editorial committee and based on eligibility criteria including:

  • Recognition of significant impact on students
  • Outstanding service and contribution to the MLC community
  • Having held a significant leadership role in the MLC community
  • Length of tenure for staff (current or past)
  • Membership to the MLC Foundation and/or Stella Argentea Society (the College’s bequest society)
