The annual Year 12 Play is approaching! A stylistic and surrealist play, 'All Through the Night' is set during and after the Third Reich.
Inspired by interviews with German Gentile women from teens through adulthood, the play explores the struggle over work, religion marriage and motherhood. Making overwhelmingly hard choices, they survive or succumb to Hitler's Reign and are changed forever.
The intimate cast of four have been rehearsing since the beginning of 2018, and we also welcome back three Old Collegians as crew - their experience and knowledge invaluable for current students.
"Our students have found the subject matter challenging but engaging," says Simon Corkeron, Dramatic Arts teacher and play director.
Three members of the cast had a very good understanding and keen interest of the subject material, having also studied 20th Century History in Year 11. "They have enjoyed having the opportunity to explore the period in more depth as part of their research for the show."
Cast member Sarah Walker, MLC's 2018 Drama Prefect, says, "I have loved working in our small, yet strong drama class with this production. It has been an intimate and intense experience which I have loved working in."
It has been a great opportunity for the students to bring strong, female, personal and true stories to life.
"For me, it's about using the subject matter in my characters and their stories to hopefully educate the audience on this time and what people went through."
Performances are on Tuesday, 20 March (matinee 3.40 pm), Wednesday, 21 March (black tie performance, 7 pm) and Thursday, 22 March (7 pm).
