2020: A year unlike any other
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 has been a year unlike any other. In March, our students and staff had to rapidly transition from learning in their classrooms to learning from home. After coming back to the campus for a few short weeks, students are again engaged in ‘continuous learning’ from home. As well as supporting their daughters’ schooling at home, many MLC families have been adversely affected financially by the pandemic’s impact on their businesses and income.
For this reason, the College decided that the usual Annual Giving Program would not be conducted this year.
The College also made some major decisions around expenditure in 2020, including the suspension of most capital works. It established measures to support families, such as issuing a fee reduction in June for all students, and other forms of financial assistance. Some of our parents kindly donated their fee rebates back to the College to assist other families in need.
In June we invited all members of the MLC community, as they were able, to consider making a special gift this year in support of students and families, and many have done so. We thank all donors for their generous response — it is greatly appreciated.
For those who are able to do so, it is not too late to give this year, in one of two ways:
1. Emergency fee relief for families affected by the Covid-19 pandemic
(note: these gifts are non tax-deductible, as per ATO guidelines)
2. Means-tested Scholarships
Principal's Indigenous Scholarships (read more...)
Dr Wood Scholarship, in honour of MLC's former Principal (1939-1966) (read more...)
Alternatively, you can download a PDF gift donation form
to return by email or post.
Please note that the Advancement team is continuing to work from home: all gifts will be processed and tax receipts issued in as timely a way as possible.
Thank you for your kind support — all gifts, whatever the size, are making a positive impact on our students and their families.
