MLC is delighted to announce that Cathie Ireland has accepted the role of Head of Junior Secondary School, effective from the beginning of Term 1, 2018.  Cathie is currently Head of the Junior School at Firbank Grammar, with responsibility for approximately 300 students and 45 staff.

“I’m very much looking forward to joining MLC in the new year,” says Cathie. “The College has an exceptional reputation in academic success, opportunity and culture. I look forward to getting to know all of the Year 7 and 8 students and being a source of guidance, as well as seeing the development of the new Years 7 and 8 Learning Centre – a very exciting project for the entire MLC Community!”

Cathie is a highly qualified Educator with experience across a variety of educational settings, systems and year levels. Her journey in education has taken her to Catholic, Independent and State Primary and Secondary Schools in a variety of leadership and consultancy roles including Assistant Principal of Middle School (Years 3-8) at The King David School and Deputy Head at Grimwade House, Melbourne Grammar School, amongst many others.

Cathie’s additional experience includes teaching in the Royal Children’s Hospital’s education unit, consulting for the Department of Education as an Assessor and she has been a panel member for the Victorian Institute of Teaching in disciplinary hearings for a number of years.

MLC is also delighted that Melissa Lange, currently the Head of Junior Secondary School, will be taking on the role of the Head of Middle School from 2018 onwards.
 
“After eight years as Head of Junior Secondary School, I feel it is time for a new step in my journey at MLC,” says Melissa. “I am fortunate to already know many of the wonderful students and their families currently in JSS and Year 9, and I look forward to welcoming families who are joining us in 2018. I will much look forward to working with students as they progress through Middle School, where experiences such as Marshmead and Work Experience await them!”
 
“Melissa’s tremendous knowledge and experience with our current Junior Secondary School students means that the transition into Middle School will be even smoother as they embark on the next step of their MLC education,” says Diana Vernon, Principal. “We are excited to be welcoming Cathie into the MLC community and I am confident that her wealth of experience will bring a new perspective into JSS.”
