Congratulations to Grace He in Year 10 who is representing Australia in the 2018 European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad held in Florence, Italy. This is the first time that the Australian Mathematics Trust has sent a team to this event.

Grace last week travelled to Sydney to attend the media announcement event, and has just flown to Florence. The other three girls on the team are in Year 12, and at two years younger, this makes Grace’s selection even more impressive. Grace received the Trust’s inaugural Cheryl Praeger Medal in 2017, awarded to top performing girls in the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC).

Also travelling with the Australian team is Old Collegian Michelle Chen (2016), who currently mentors a number of our current students in the Compass Centre extension programs.

Alongside Grace, Gen Conway in Year 8 was also invited to recently attend the prestigious Australian Mathematical Olympiad Committee School of Excellence, both students there as strong contenders for future International Mathematical Olympiad teams, which typically consist of Year 12 students.

We look forward to following the progress of Grace and her teammates, which can be read on their team blog: https://ausegmo.wordpress.com/

Best of luck to the Australian team!
