Helping to shape MLC's future

There is no greater gift than the gift of education. The MLC Foundation seeks the philanthropic funds that will enable the best possible learning environment and experiences for our girls. It builds on a strong tradition of giving by our Community – a hallmark of the College since it was founded in 1882.

More about the work of the Foundation...
Recognising that fees cover the operating and general costs and giving transforms our school, the Foundation works in partnership with the MLC community to provide our current and future students with world-class facilities, programs and opportunities.

The Foundation’s role is to inspire philanthropy within the MLC community to enhance our learning environment and thereby help to develop confident and articulate young women who have the skills, knowledge, values and attitudes to shape their future and contribute meaningfully to the world.

The Foundation provides opportunities for the MLC community to support the College by making tax-deductible donations to the Foundation’s Building, Scholarship or Library Funds to benefit our students. You can choose from a range of giving initiatives to make a real difference for our students and ensure MLC continues to be an innovative and leading girls’ school.

In addition to Annual Giving, which seeks a modest gift every year from every member of the MLC Community in support of specific priorities, from time to time the Foundation works with the Board to run Capital Campaigns. These special effort programs are in support of major initiatives and redevelopments at the College to ensure facilities are fit for purpose and optimal for teaching and learning.

The Stella Argentea Bequest Society, a joint initiative of the Foundation and the College, offers an opportunity to make a tangible and lasting gift through a gift in your will. Bequests enable future generations of girls to benefit from a life-changing MLC education and secure the College’s future. The Stella Argentea Society recognises and honours those who have notified the College of their intention to leave a bequest.

Small gifts or large, it’s participation that matters most at MLC — we value the generous support of our community and recognise that any contribution is significant to the future of our College and students. Our community is what differentiates us and we are very grateful for the support we receive for our girls and staff. Every gift makes a difference.

Scholarship Fund

The gift of education through a scholarship can change and inspire the lives of outstanding students. A gift of this nature can assist in attracting and rewarding high-achieving students, recognising the attributes of well-rounded students, assisting students with extraordinary ability in a specific area, or helping students who would otherwise be unable to attend MLC.

Jasmine Zhu (2012)

Doctor

Receiving a scholarship to study at MLC allowed me to have a wonderful educational experience that I otherwise would not have had. I had access to fantastic teachers, exciting student programs and an enormous array of extra-curricular activities.

The lessons that I learnt at MLC about trying to be kind and respectful towards others, working hard and being true to oneself have remained with me ever since I left school.

Thank you to everyone who has donated to the MLC Scholarship Fund. Your generosity has had an enormous impact on my life and I am so grateful.

Miranda Gronow (2011)

Postgraduate Study in Archaeology, University of Oxford

As a twelve-year old, receiving a scholarship to MLC felt like a huge vote of confidence in my abilities. It really gave me the drive to excel and to repay the investment made in me.

My time at MLC imbued me with a strong work ethic, a rigorous research practice, curiosity, and a sense of service – skills that are essential to my professional and academic life today.

Layce Vocale (2007)

Senior Consultant, PwC

I still remember how nervous I was walking into the MLC boarding house, unaware of the impact that this magical place would have on me and my future.

Receiving an Indigenous scholarship to study at MLC opened so many doors on my journey throughout university, work and in my extracurricular activities.

I could not be more thankful to the generous people who gave me the opportunity to attend MLC and shape my future, as a strong, independent and happy woman.

Thank you to our 2018 donors
