From choirs to percussion ensembles to the Concert Orchestra, students showcased the strength and breadth of MLC’s music program. Each performance reflected not only musical skill, but the confidence, dedication and creativity nurtured through their learning.
“Music is not only about performance – it’s about connection,” reflected Director of Music, Vicki Dede.
“It teaches students to listen, to adapt, to collaborate and to think creatively. Every rehearsal, every mistake and every breakthrough is part of the learning process, and these concerts clearly showcase the inspiring results of that journey.”
The concerts featured a diverse program spanning classical and contemporary repertoire, illustrating the versatility of students across all year levels. A standout moment was the Junior School Concert Choir reprising the songs that saw them finish in second place at the recent Boroondara Eisteddfod.
The grand finale was another highlight, with a beautiful rendition of Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A Major, performed by the Concert Orchestra, conducted by Jen Skate and featuring Year 12 student Elena as the soloist.
Beyond the stage, students also demonstrated a strong sense of purpose and generosity. Those involved in the Year 10 Global Learning Program led fundraising initiatives, including a sausage sizzle and popcorn stall, contributing to their partnership with The School of St Judes and reinforcing the values of service and global citizenship.
Music Mosaic is a meaningful part of the MLC music journey – bringing learning to life, building confidence and creating opportunities for students to connect with each other and the wider community through a shared love of music.
