MLC Community Celebrates Completion of Phase 1

MLC Community Celebrates Completion of Phase 1

June 25th, 2026

MLC families came together on Discovery Day to celebrate the opening of the Aquatic Centre. Marking the completion of Phase 1 of the College’s new Physical Education and Sport Precinct, families experienced the facilities designed to inspire girls to stay active, build confidence and achieve their personal best

Attended by more than a thousand members of the MLC community, the sunny winter’s day provided the perfect backdrop to explore the recently completed Centre, the enhanced Junior School playground and the surrounding grounds.

Families were first welcomed with an address from Principal Julia Shea, followed by a meaningful Smoking Ceremony, led by proud Wurundjeri man and friend of the College, Pallyan Hunter.

Students and their families then had the chance to enjoy self-guided tours of the Aquatic Centre, beginning with the Olympic 50-metre pool deck and taking in the dedicated diving area and the Shirley Hsieh Learn to Swim pool. On Level 2, families viewed a time-lapse of the impressive construction and explored the Marjorie Nicholas Hub – a flexible space for learning and gathering together.

The experience continued outdoors, where families explored the Wong Family Athletics Hub, the Ferraro Family Wellbeing Garden and the enhanced Junior School playground. The playground features a sensory nature walk and adventure play areas, as well as the Ng and Wong Family Sports Court.

This new chapter for MLC was celebrated in a vibrant, community atmosphere, with food trucks, a DJ and student-led activities, including storytelling, ball games and face painting.

MLC staff were also on hand to share how these new facilities will support Physical Education, co-curricular sport and community programs.

The College extends its sincere thanks to the many donors whose generosity has helped bring this important development to life, supporting both current and future students, as well as the wider community.

Looking ahead, the precinct will continue to evolve with the completion of the next phase by the end of 2027, including a new Indoor Sports Centre to further support student activity, sport and connection.
