In early June, a group of Art and Design students from Years 10 to 12 embarked on a four-day creative immersion in Sydney, as part of MLC’s biennial Art & Design Tour.
This curriculum-based experience is a key offering within the College’s Global Learning Program, which supports students to extend their learning in diverse environments and deepen their understanding of themselves, others and the world around them.
During the tour, students explored Sydney’s dynamic art and design landscape, engaging with both contemporary and historical perspectives. The tour included visits to major national institutions such as the Art Gallery of NSW, Museum of Contemporary Art, and Art Space, where students viewed works from the Archibald, Sulman and Wynne prizes, and explored exhibitions by contemporary Australian First Nations artists.
Students also attended hands-on workshops and visited artist and designer studios, gaining insight into current creative practices and the broader cultural context of Australian art and design. A highlight of the tour was attending the Sydney Biennale, one of the world’s leading contemporary art events.
Beyond gallery walls, students explored iconic Sydney locations including Sydney Opera House, Vivid Sydney, Watsons Bay and Sydney Harbour.
This immersive experience is one of many ways MLC supports students to explore their passions, connect with real-world learning, and grow as independent, resilient and ambitious learners. Through opportunities like the Sydney Art & Design Tour, students deepen their understanding of creative disciplines while building confidence, curiosity and a broader perspective of the world around them.
