Tiddeman Boarding House joined schools across the country in celebrating National Boarding Week — a chance to connect and celebrate community.
Throughout the week, students took part in a variety of meaningful and memorable events that brought the boarding community together and highlighted the contributions of our boarders.
Mother’s Day café
The week began with a warm celebration of the important people in our lives at the Mother’s Day Café. Students baked a selection of cakes and sweet treats, and welcomed their mums into the sunroom for a relaxed afternoon tea. With sunshine streaming in, it was a perfect moment to pause and connect.
Cake decorating for The Little Things
In partnership with the Australian Boarding Schools Association (ABSA), our boarders hosted a birthday cake decorating activity for The Little Things charity. We welcomed 120 boarding students from 10 schools across Victoria to bake, decorate, and write heartfelt cards. Together, they created more than 60 birthday cakes for children staying at Ronald McDonald House, many of whom come from rural and regional areas, just like our boarders.
Breakfast with our teachers
On Thursday, the Boarding House hosted the 'Invite a Teacher' Breakfast, where students welcomed staff for a relaxed morning meal. The event offered a wonderful opportunity for students and teachers to connect outside the classroom in a friendly and informal setting.
Tiddeman House Tours and Regional Food Festival
As the final celebration, boarders led tours of Tiddeman House, proudly sharing their home-away-from-home with visitors. The day also included a Regional Food Festival, showcasing the diverse cultural backgrounds of our boarders through delicious dishes. A special thank you to Fowles Wine for the jam, which was a crowd favourite!
A Gift of Gratitude
To round out the week, students received a generous gift from the Boarder Parents’ Association — a plush MLC bathrobe for each boarder. Thoughtful and practical, the gift was gratefully received and quickly put to use during Melbourne’s cooler evenings.
National Boarding Week was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate what makes boarding at MLC so special: the connections, the community and the care that defines life at Tiddeman House.
