The Aquatic Centre Moves Closer to Opening

June 2nd, 2026

Phase 1 of MLC’s Physical Education and Sport Precinct is nearing completion, marked by the arrival of the impressive pool boom for the new Aquatic Centre.

The three-and-a-half tonne boom arrived at MLC at the end of May, signalling an important step towards the precinct opening for students. Director of Corporate Services James Berry said its arrival and installation – a complex feat – marked the culmination of a long journey and a significant milestone for the project.

“This is an exciting day for the College with the arrival of the boom on site – one of the very last pieces that's required for the completion of the Aquatic Centre.”

The floating boom allows the Aquatic Centre’s 50‑metre pool to be divided into two swimming spaces, enhancing the flexibility of the facility. This adaptability mirrors the centre’s purpose: to accommodate a wide range of activities for students and the community, from learn‑to‑swim programs to diving.

Alongside the Aquatic Centre, Phase 1 also includes the enhanced Junior School playground, with final landscaping continuing as weather allows. The playground features new play equipment, a nature walk, an outdoor classroom and a multipurpose court area, supporting active play and outdoor learning.

Together, these new facilities represent MLC’s significant investment in student wellbeing, creating contemporary spaces that encourage participation, movement and connection.

Students are expected to begin using the new Aquatic Centre and Junior School playground towards the end of Term 2, marking an exciting transition as Phase 1 reaches completion and the precinct begins to come to life.

The pool boom arrives at its new home in the Aquatic Centre, as Phase 1 nears completion.
