Bringing the Precinct to Life: Celebrating Phase 1 as the Next Phase Begins

June 25th, 2026

The opening of the Aquatic Centre marks the completion of Phase 1 of MLC’s Physical Education and Sport Precinct, an exciting step forward in a long-term vision to support student wellbeing, movement and connection.

Celebrated by more than a thousand members of the MLC community, Discovery Day on Sunday 21 June provided an opportunity for families to experience the new Centre, the enhanced Junior School playground and the surrounding grounds. The event began with an address from Principal Julia Shea, followed by a meaningful Smoking Ceremony led by proud Wurundjeri man and friend of the College, Pallyan Hunter.

The impressive Aquatic Centre is a contemporary facility designed to support students at every stage of their aquatic journey, from learning water confidence right through to diving. Featuring a 50-metre pool, dedicated diving area, and the Shirley Hsieh Learn to Swim pool, the Centre provides opportunities for students of all ages and ability levels.

The Centre also includes the Marjorie Nicholas Hub, a flexible space designed for learning, connection and community gathering, reflecting the role the Precinct will play beyond sport alone.

Opportunities for activity and connection continue beyond the Centre itself, across a series of intentionally designed outdoor spaces, including the Outdoor Court area, Wong Family Athletics Hub and the Ferraro Family Wellbeing Garden. The enhanced Junior School playground is also a highlight, with a sensory nature walk, adventure play areas and the Ng and Wong Family Sports Court, which encourage exploration and movement for younger students.

With Phase 1 now complete and being enjoyed by students, the precinct will continue to evolve. Delivered through a careful two-phase approach, facilities are opening in stages to minimise disruption to learning and the wider community.

Phase 2 will introduce a new indoor Sports Centre, featuring multi-purpose courts, a state-of-the-art gymnasium and fitness studios, further strengthening how students engage in activity, sport and connection.

Additionally, the new amenities will include expanded underground car parking, helping improve campus access and reducing pressure on surrounding streets.

Together, these facilities will provide an inclusive environment that encourages all girls to participate in physical activities, reflecting MLC’s commitment to nurturing the holistic development of every student. Built for current and future generations, the precinct will play an important role in shaping both the student and community experience for years to come.
