“We recognise the importance of educating our students for life in a global village where international understanding is a key skill. Friendships made as a boarder last a lifetime.” Jane Shone, Head of Boarding
The Boarding House at Methodist Ladies' College offers a home away from home for approximately 120 boarders from regional and rural Australia and a variety of countries from around the globe.
The transition to boarding is supported by the Boarding House Staff and the student leadership team of Prefects and House Leaders. From the moment a new boarder begins at Tiddeman House, she is supported at focused transition times such as the beginning of the school year as well as during the year by boarding tutor staff.
Boarders get involved with the broader life of the College through engagement in the wide range of co-curricular activities offered, including interest based clubs, sport, music and drama. Additionally, each boarder is integrated fully within the day school House system. Boarders are encouraged to embrace life at MLC in order to enrich their learning, extend their friendships and to improve their wellbeing.
MLC boarders are very busy both during the school week as well as over the weekends with their individual sporting, music and co-curricular commitments. Our boarders are self-directed, responsible and diverse in their interests and the College supports this approach while also offering additional weekend activities on campus such as cooking, craft, reading, swimming, badminton and table tennis.
Choosing MLC’s Boarding House to pursue your academic goals opens up a world of opportunity. Students have the chance to make many new friends, the freedom to socialise and plan outings, the support to develop productive study habits and the guidance to grow into the person they want to become.
Our Boarding House is a safe, caring environment that combines tradition with state-of-the-art facilities and technology. We endeavour to provide a culture that offers independence, flexibility and fun. The experience enables boarders to develop confidence and resilience, and a deeper understanding of diversity.
I have made some lifelong friends of all ages in the MLC Boarding House. It’s been great to get to know other girls from all over the country and around the world. Lucy, MLC boarder, Year 11
