Methodist Ladies' College is committed to providing a wide range of learning opportunities across all areas of the curriculum and to nurturing individual students’ talents and interests and providing a breadth of learning opportunities that is as diverse and engaging as our student body. As part of this commitment students with special talents are invited to apply for the scholarships on offer. MLC scholarships are competitive and awarded on the basis of results of the scholarship test or application, previous school reports and an interview.

Scholarships are offered to commencing and continuing students and recognise outstanding achievement or relevant personal circumstances. MLC awards a significant number of scholarships each year and may vary the number and amount of scholarships to reflect the quality of applicants and the availability of places.

Awarded to students demonstrating academic excellence.

Audience: Entry Years 5, 7 and 9
Eligibility:

  • Australian citizens or residents
  • Currently at MLC or attending another school

  • Results of the MLC Scholarship Test
  • Results of the most recent School Report
  • Evaluation through Interview. Candidates shortlisted for an interview will be contacted by telephone and/or email.

Duration:

  • Tenable for two years (Entry Year 5)
  • Tenable for six years (Entry Year 7)
  • Tenable for four years (Entry Year 9)

Scholarship holders are expected to complete their secondary education at MLC.

Awarded to students who have demonstrated excellent academic and musical talent.

Angela Sharman Memorial Music Scholarship

The Angela Sharman Memorial Music Scholarship honors the memory of Angela Sharman, an Old Collegian, and is awarded to a musician who has significant musical talent and relevant personal circumstances.

Audience: Entry Years 10 and 11

Eligibility:

  • Australian citizens or residents
  • Currently at MLC or attending another school
  • Combined family income of less than $110,000 per annum (means-tested)
  • Hold significant musical talent

Selection Criteria:

  • Able to contribute significantly to the music environment at MLC during the period of the scholarship
  • Results of the most recent School Report
  • Results of the MLC Scholarship Test
  • Evaluation through Interview. Candidates shortlisted for an interview will be contacted by telephone and/or email.
  • Evaluation of Confidential Scholarship Financial Statement submitted with overall financial circumstances considered.
  • Evaluation of Audition
  • Candidates must meet the AMEB standard determined for the Year 10 or 11 Music/Academic scholarship.

Audition:

  • Candidates are required to perform two contrasting works. One work must be accompanied by piano, with the accompanist organised by the candidate.
  • Technical work, aural tests and sight reading may also be included at the discretion of the Director of Music.

Value:

The scholarship covers:

  • full or half tuition fees
  • provision of a notebook computer
  • full music tuition for the primary instrument by an MLC teacher

Important note:

“Full” scholarship covers 90% of tuition fees and “half” scholarship covers one-half of the benefits of a full scholarship, i.e. 45% of tuition fees. There is an expectation that families will make a small contribution.

The recipient of the Angela Sharman Memorial Scholarship is required to maintain a satisfactory level of both academic and musical performance during the period of the scholarship.
