Acclaimed chef Daniel Wilson, of Huxtable and Huxtaburger fame, is being welcomed back to Methodist Ladies’ College as a Guest Chef at the Terrace Restaurant on Thursday, 18 May 2017.

The biannual special Guest Chef lunches are a fabulous opportunity for MLC’s VCE VET Hospitality students to not only work with Melbourne’s leading chefs, but to actually produce and serve their famous dishes to clientele in the College’s commercial training restaurant.

Daniel also worked with MLC students last year which was very well-received by the students and the dining guests, and the College is delighted he is returning to the College’s commercial training restaurant, the Terrace Restaurant, once again.

“We are very fortunate to welcome Daniel back to the Terrace Restaurant,” says Vicky Manos, one of the students’ VCE VET Hospitality teachers. “To have a chef of his calibre and experience is a thrill for our students. Daniel is an outstanding role model as someone who is a star of the fine dining world, but also a successful business owner of Huxtaburger. Whilst our students already very familiar with Huxtaburger, with one of his outlets just up the road, it is a privilege to see the other side of his business and cuisine.”

The five-course lunch consists of dishes such as spiced tuna tartare, confit Ora King salmon and white chocolate panna cotta. The menu was designed with Daniel’s signature style of clean, modern food that was served at Huxtable, with the Fitzroy restaurant being recognised with a coveted Chef’s Hat in The Age’s Good Food Guide in 2014.

The Terrace Restaurant is MLC’s purpose-built, full-service commercial facility for VCE VET Hospitality students to hone their skills both front of house and back of house under full supervision, whilst diners can enjoy on-trend, industry-standard dishes and beverages. Open to the public, the restaurant hosts high teas fortnightly, with lunch service on alternating weeks (during term time only). As students graduate from the program with an industry Certificate in Food and Beverage or Commercial Cookery, it is a great opportunity to support aspiring culinary students whilst enjoying a restaurant-standard meal at an affordable price.
