Gymnastics National Success
24 July 2009
At The Australian Gymnastics Championships held at the Perth Superdome this month, 14 MLC gymnasts represented Victoria in the National and International Stream divisions. MLC enjoyed its best results ever, with one student crowned National Champion on Floor and two MLC students being crowned runner up National Champions in the All Around.

"Guinea pigs rule the world" written in the accumulated dust on a car provided Catherine Bateson the inspiration to write Being Bee, (Children's Book Council of Australia, Book of the Year, Young Readers 2007.) "The smallest thing can lead you to a character and that character's story", says Catherine.

Art Collection Comes of Age
24 June 2009
In the late 1980's, Methodist Ladies' College acquired the first artworks in its creation of a contemporary Australian art collection. The vision for the Collection was for it to contain works from both established and emerging artists and for it to be a teaching resource, not only for art teachers, but for other areas of the College where art may be integrated into the curriculum. Twenty one years on, the College is celebrating the "coming of age" of the MLC Contemporary Art Collection with the publication of Catalogue 2009.

Brain Sport Challenge

Three perfect IB scores
5 January 2009
The Methodist Ladies' College (MLC) Class of 2008 International Baccalaureate (IB) students today achieved excellent results, highlighting the strong international focus of the College. Results released today show that three MLC students attained an IB score of 45 which equates to a VCE ENTER of 99.95 with a further two students attaining an IB score of 44 equating to a VCE ENTER of 99.90.

Outstanding 2008 VCE Performances

The VCE Class of 2008 has continued the fine tradition of academic excellence at Methodist Ladies' College. With averages well up on previous years, over 40% of the 2008 VCE graduating class obtained ENTER scores above 90, with nine students achieving scores above 99.00 and two students achieving a score of 99.90.

Academic Gala Day Decathlon at MLC
9 June 2006
Two hundred and forty Year 7 students, representing 30 schools, will descend on MLC in Kew for the first annual 'Victorian da Vinci Decathlon' on Tuesday, 13 June. A trophy for the winning school as well as gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded.

Special Needs Grants for Boroondara Schools goes to Yooralla
5 June 2006
The Jean Chambers Foundation, established in1995 to provide financial assistance to students with a disability attending schools in the Boroondara municipality, will be transferred to Yooralla. Since 1998, the Foundation has granted funds to 24 schools in the Boroondara area with the direct recipients being students of these schools. A cheque for $158,000 to the new Jean Chambers Yooralla Fund will be presented on 5 June 2006 in a ceremony at Yooralla in Blackburn.

MLC Scoops Boroondara Literacy Awards
17 November 2005
Four students from MLC have won top honours. Rachel Tyler (Alphington) in year 10 at MLC has won first prize in the Senior Prose section and Sarah Dickenson-Hoyle (Alphington) has won two commendations for each of the two poems she submitted in the Senior Poetry section. Renata Blyth of Kew won a commendation in the Junior Poetry section. Rebecca Wardle, also of Kew, has won a commendation in the Senior Prose section.

Meet Victoria's brainiest kid, Methodist Ladies' College student, Vivian Giang. Vivian is currently placed fourth in Network Ten's Australia's Brainiest Kid show where the nation's brightest 11 and 12 year olds battle through rounds of general knowledge questions and mind teasers to prove they deserve the title of Australia's most intelligent youngster. She is the first Victorian to ever reach the finals.
