At MLC, the Religious Education program aims to expand students' educational and social horizons, to develop students' awareness of themselves as spiritual people and to provide them with strategies for facing personal and academic challenges. MLC is a school of the Uniting Church in Australia and thus RE is part of the core curriculum from Prep to Year 11.

In Junior School, the curriculum is based on the research and Five Strand philosophy of Peter Vardy encompassing Ethics, Philosophy, Biblical Stories, Other World Religions and Meditation. Junior Secondary School students spend time exploring the main stories that have shaped the Christian Faith, while in Middle School, students study Other World Religions and explore the issues of justice and values.

In Year 11, the RE course offers an opportunity for students to reflect on issues that have a direct application to their life choices. There are no scheduled classes for Year 12 students, however there is a Reflection Day early in Term 1 where students are led through workshops that reflect the broad aims of Religious Education at MLC.
