MLC has two libraries, the Junior School Library (MLC Kindle - Year 6) and the Walton Library (Years 7 - 12). Other special collections are located within subject departments, the Development Office, Health Centre, MLC Marshmead and Tiddeman House.
Through responsive and proactive customer service, MLC Libraries' staff provides access to a wealth of information and resources in a range of formats and languages, meeting the educational and recreational needs of the College community. Teacher Librarians support subject teachers and their students by encouraging independent lifelong learning skills through research assistance and information literacy programs. An appreciation and enjoyment of literature is promoted through literature clubs, author visits and reading sessions.
Junior School Library
The architecturally designed Junior School library hosts a rich variety of print resources, audio, DVD/video, kit and reference collections. Students are welcomed into a positive, warm, inviting space through the extensive use of comfortable chairs, cushions and mats in a variety of seating arrangements. It is a place for students to be inspired, educated, informed and entertained. A weekly library class is conducted for all students from Prep through to Year 6. These formal lessons see students exposed to different writers and their works, along with the processes of writing and illustrating. The lessons also promote information literacy and create an awareness of the latest developments in information resources and services.
Walton Library
The well-equipped Walton Library and audiovisual facilities include a comfortable reading lounge, class teaching and private study areas, a television studio, an editing suite and a media studio. An extensive range of online resources can be accessed via the Library website. These resources are complemented by the comprehensive audiovisual and print collections housed in the College libraries. Students are welcome to use the library facilities before school, recess, lunchtime and after school. Senior School students have access to a private study area and are able to use the library in their spare periods. All students benefit from a warm, caring and friendly environment.
