At MLC, Legal Studies is a dynamic department.  Students have the opportunity to investigate one of the largest systems that regulate our lives – the legal system.  Because of the ever-changing nature of the legal system, students rely on media reports, the internet and excursions to research recent events.  This research helps them develop analytical and research skills that will be of life-long benefit.

Students are encouraged to explore a diverse range of topics about laws that could impact on them as young adults and in later life.  For example, the jury system is investigated as well as the areas of law that regulate medical technology and crime.

Legal Studies’ students are also given opportunities to visit institutions such as Loddon Prison, Melbourne Courts and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.  We also offer an overseas tour of the courts and parliaments of the United Kingdom and Europe, which is exciting as well as intellectually stimulating.  These ‘visits’ encourage a better understanding of the diversity within our society and the ways in which the legal system can impact on us all.
