We all have an innate desire to know where we belong and what makes our world the way it is. The Humanities subjects, Geography, History, Civics, Politics and International Studies give students this fundamental underpinning to their lives.
From Year 7 to 12, these subjects confront students with the knowledge that we are not absolutely free agents. We have to learn to manage and live within the constraints of the natural environment. We have to maintain the structures that make society stable. We have to understand the ideas and values that bind people together.
On the other hand, students also learn that the world is constantly changing and that it is individuals who make things happen. The Humanities give students the understanding they need to make sense of what is going on in the world, and the perspective to view their role in the world positively.
