Geography is all about places and how they change. What better way to experience this, than to explore different places through fieldwork!
From national parks to sandy shores, from Hanging Rock to under the sea at the Melbourne Aquarium, Geography is all about investigating and experiencing changing places. In the secondary years, fieldwork forms a major part of geographical studies at MLC.
In Junior Secondary School, students look at Melbourne, the surrounding natural and human environments, and the processes that change them. Here, students learn important field techniques of observation, data collection and digital photography.
In Middle School, the curriculum is diverse with students studying the rural environment around Mallacoota for one term, and different environments of the Asia/Pacific region for another term. In Year 10, students focus on managing the world's environments; from oceans and other ecosystems, to our ancient and natural wonders.
Senior School students learn about changing places on a number of different scales - local, regional and global - with examples from both natural and human environments. Field techniques are fine-tuned as they comprise part of the VCE and IB assessment.
