Economics is considered a humanities or behavioural science subject. It is concerned with the study of how human society decides to allocate the world’s limited resources to their varied and limitless uses. From considering how individual consumers and producers behave and what motivates them, to a study of the economic behaviour of entire countries, economics is directed towards understanding how the standard of living for all can be maximised.
At MLC we offer Economics through VCE and IB.
The VCE course consists of four semester length units over two years, and examines how individuals, groups and governments manage resources. This is done through the study of how current economic issues impact on the Australian economy. It also provides the opportunity to learn about the operation and management of the Australian economy in a global context.
The IB course has a distinctly international focus. From a strong theoretical base, students are introduced to the practical application of economic theory through the analysis of the allocation of resources, markets, business economics, macroeconomics, international issues and development economics.
