The Chinese Department at MLC provides Chinese courses from Year 7 to Year 12 for VCE and IB which are the different systems of examination for entry to university. Chinese courses at MLC allow students to choose suitable courses from the first language level which is suitable for students who have Chinese family backgrounds and who use the language at home or the second language level which is suitable for non-background students. Students can use traditional or simplified Chinese characters to express their ideas and to present their writing tasks.

All year levels of Chinese at MLC will involve a variety of class activities and will develop skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The courses will be supported by aural and visual materials and Chinese teaching assistants.

During the course, students will have the opportunity to be involved in incursions and excursions state wide in Victoria and overseas. Chinese students of Year 9 and Year 10 will have an opportunity to tour China during the September school holidays.
