Music/Academic Scholarships for Year 9, 10 or 11 entry in 2009
The Year 9, 10 or 11 Music/Academic Scholarship and the Angela Sharman Memorial Music Scholarship cover remission of half or full academic tuition and full music tuition at MLC on the student's chief instrument until the end of Year 12. The scholarship covers full music tuition for the primary instrument by an MLC teacher.
The Angela Sharman Memorial Music Scholarship
In 1994 Stanton Sharman, together with his son Nicholas, established the Angela Sharman Memorial Music Scholarship, commemorating the life and love of music of his daughter, Angela, who died an untimely death resulting from an asthma attack in 1986.
The Angela Sharman Memorial Music Scholarship is open to students presently in Year 8, 9 or 10 at MLC or another school. It recognises a student who:
-
is able to contribute significantly to the music environment at MLC during the period of the scholarship;
-
has significant musical attributes; and
-
maintains a satisfactory level of both academic and musical performance during the period of the scholarship.
Details of Testing
All applicants applying for a Music/Academic Scholarship, including the Angela Sharman Memorial Music Scholarship, are required to sit for the ACER testing on Saturday, 10 May 2008 at Methodist Ladies' College beginning at 8.45 a.m. and finishing at approximately 12.00 p.m.
Music/Academic Scholarships at MLC are awarded on the basis of test results, previous school reports, an interview and an audition. An invitation to interview does not necessarily mean than the student is offered a scholarship.
Music Auditions will be held on Friday, 23 May and Saturday, 24 May 2008. Applicants will be notified of audition times by 25 April 2008.
The final decision is made after all factors, including the interview, have been considered. The scholarship fee of $85.00 covers both academic and music applications.
